Space Information System Security Officer (ISSO) Training
Course Description: This intensive Space Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) course provides a comprehensive foundation in cybersecurity tailored for the unique challenges of space systems. Participants will master fundamental information security concepts, legal frameworks, and risk management strategies while gaining specialized knowledge in satellite communications and ground station security.
The curriculum integrates hands-on learning through simulations and real-world case studies, complemented by essential systems engineering principles and soft skills development. Covering everything from technical proficiency in security controls and incident response to effective communication and leadership in space operations, this course prepares ISSOs to safeguard critical space infrastructure against evolving threats.
Graduates will emerge with the expertise to develop and implement robust security measures for space missions, aligning with industry standards and certifications while adapting to the dynamic landscape of space technology and cybersecurity.

Who Should Attend: Participants should be mid-career, seeking and applying for ISSO roles for Space systems. Participants should meet pre-requisites for the positions (clearance, years of experience, education/certification requirements) to facilitate position fulfillment. A foundational understanding of information security principles and a keen interest in space technology are essential. The program is particularly suited for those looking to transition from general IT security to space-specific roles, as well as those already in the space industry seeking to specialize in cybersecurity. Participants should be prepared for an intensive, hands-on learning experience and be committed to ongoing professional development in this rapidly evolving field.
By the end of this course, participants will: Be equipped to effectively secure and manage information systems for space missions, applying specialized knowledge of both cybersecurity principles and space systems. In the Purdue Cyber Apprenticeship Program, you work for an employer that pays for your education while you gain paid industry experience and training. When you complete the program, you will have earned an associate degree in IT, a Bachelor of Science degree in computer and information science majoring in cybersecurity, or a Master of Science in cybersecurity and trusted systems. Additionally, you will have opportunities to sit for various industry recognized certifications, earn other specialty certificates, and earn a Purdue Leadership Academy certificate—all without accumulating student debt and while earning a paycheck.
